Skills Development

Skills Development is a critical aspect of Adapt IT’s business continuity to maintain continuous development of skills, while uplifting the communities it operates, by creating skills development opportunities like learnership and bursary programmes.

Adapt IT Holdings Proprietary Limited subscribes to the South African National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and the Skills Development Act, to uplift the communities in and around its areas of operation. The company is actively supporting the development and success of future leaders to enable them to Achieve more. As such, the development of South African youth from matriculants, college students, including skilled but unemployed and unskilled unemployed youth remains a big concern for Adapt IT.

In line with NQF, Adapt IT has implemented the following Skills Development initiatives:

  • Learnership
  • University Bursary Programme
  • Graduate Programme

All of these initiatives contribute towards Adapt IT skills development strategy for a sustainable skills pipeline for future needs, while improving life of the underprivileged communities.

Youth Employment Services (YES)

YES (Youth Employment Service) is a government-backed business- led initiative designed to create employment for one million young people. The initiative offers businesses the opportunity to gain up to 2 B-BBEE levels should they participate and meet their targets. Participation requires businesses to sponsor unemployed youth for 12 months in a job.

The initiative aims to give an entire generation of youth the opportunity to gain work experience, transforming their lives, the businesses they help grow, and the economy of the entire country all predicated on the fact that without experience youth cannot get a job and without a job, youth cannot get experience.

Adapt IT further demonstrated its commitment in Skills Development by appointing 36 YES beneficiaries in 2020 and 14 YES beneficiaries in 2021, who we unemployed. Micros appointed 11 YES beneficiaries in 2021.

 

Adapt IT Hackathon

Adapt IT is proud to share the Hackathon Graduate Recruitment success story, an initiative driven to recruit newly qualified unemployed graduates. A hackathon offers students and/or unemployed graduates an opportunity to learn and acquire new skills and experience in line with their qualifications.

Adapt IT hosted the first Hackathon event for 2022 in partnership with Wits Computer Science Department of the he University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (Wits). The hackathon was themed “Social Good Africa” with a focus on helping to resolve food shortages and other supplies faced within SA and the African continent. Primary benefactors are hospitals, schools and NGOs.

The event had 100 registrations from students , and 64 students completed the 24-hour hackathon challenge. A total of 10 students finished in positions 1st, 2nd and 3rd and qualifying for Adapt IT’s Youth Employment Services (YES) Beneficiary/ Graduate Program upon graduation.

Graduate Programme

In addition to the above Skills Development programmes, Adapt IT recruit newly qualified unemployed graduates for a fixed period. This initiative offers the graduates an opportunity to learn and to acquire new skills and experience in line with their qualifications.

Graduates are also mentored, to guide and support them throughout their employment period. In some instances Graduates are absorbed and appointed permanently. For Adapt IT, there are 19 Graduates appointed for in 2020, and 8 Graduates appointed in 2021.

We are proud to share one of the success stories wherein an unemployed youth, Tebogo Mushingwa, started her career at Adapt IT in the Graduate Programme and was subsequently absorbed into the business and appointed permanently. Please click on the video to connect with Tebogo’s story.

Unemployed Learnership Programmes

Adapt IT, in line with the skills requirements of the business, partners with accredited training providers to offer a 12-month learnership programme in Systems Development NQF Level 4/5. The programme is registered with the MICT SETA.

The first group of learners commenced with the programme in March 2020 and second group in June 2020. All learners are black (African, Indian and Coloured) and there are 32 Learners appointed for Adapt IT in 2020, and 26 Learners appointed for Adapt IT in 2021. There were 15 Learners in 2020 and 10 Learners in 2021 appointed for Micros. Learners are assigned to mentors for coaching to ensure that they achieve their qualification within the programme time frame.

Adapt IT prides itself in the timeous delivery of the programme to participants with no challenges.

A Learnership is a work-based education and training programme that is linked to a qualification registered with South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and the Media Information and Communication Technology (MICT) SETA. Learnerships are occupationally directed programmes that consist of both structured theoretical learning and a practical workplace experience.

Bursary Programme

The Adapt IT Bursary programme was successfully implemented for the first time in January 2020.

The programme is managed by an independent service provider.

There are 37 bursary scheme beneficiaries funded for 2020 academic year, and 52 bursars awarded bursaries in 2021 to study Information Technology and Programming qualifications.

All bursary scheme beneficiaries are Black (African, Indian and Coloured).
